My Mom's Rum Cake

My mom made this rum cake every Christmas. Now I make this recipe every year. One of my favorite memories of our time baking together.

My Mom's Rum Cake

In a large mixing bowl combine 1 yellow boxed cake mix, 3 eggs, 1/2 c. Oil, 1/2 c. water and 1 /2 c. Rum, mix well. Pour mixture into greased baking pans and bake in a 350 degree oven until golden brown. While cooking in a saucepan melt 1 stick butter, 1/4 c. water, and 1c. sugar allow to a boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1/2c. dark rum, stir well. Pour mixture over cakes until absorbed. The more sauce added the better.
